The next generation iPhones to be launched this year includes a 4.7 inch iPhone, 5.5 inch iPhone and a 5.8 inch iPhone with OLED display. The 4.7 inch iPhone comes with an aluminium casing, and the material for 5.5 inch iPhone isn’t specified yet.
According to DigiTimes, a Taiwanese website which regularly keeps tabs on the Apple’s supply chain reported, the 5.8 inch iPhone gets glass casing with Stainless steel frame. It further says, the 5.8 inch iPhone will also adopt an OLED display. This will result in the cost of all new 5.8 inch iPhone from $1000.
Last year, while testing Sasmung’s Galaxy S7, several advantages of an OLED display technology were summarized by Display Mate Technologies. The OLED displays are flexible, and more power efficient than LCDs. It also improves sharpness of images. The OLED display also has a wider viewing angle, brighter with better color accuracy, and faster response time.
The next generation iPhones to be launched this year are commonly referred as iPhone 7s, iPhone 7s Plus and iPhone 8. Since iPhone 8 is considered to be a high end model by Apple this year, it is also referred as iPhone X. These phones will be launched in September as usual on the tenth anniversary of iPhones.
Various rumors regarding these new generation smartphones are floating in the market. However, there is no agreement on various speculations and rumors. Ming Chi Kuo, KGI Securities Analyst and Nikkei, a Japanese website, both reported that the new iPhone will come with a glass casing. This will be a major step towards redesign on the occasion of the iPhone’s 10th anniversary.
Another Japanese website named Mac Otakara said, the iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus, the 4.7 inch and 5.5 inch model will keep the aluminum design similar to the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. Only an internal change will be made. The iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus will have an A11 chip, an addition of which will make the models faster. A recent report also confirms this speculation which stated at least the 4.7 inch iPhone will surely continue with Aluminium casing.
If the new 4.7 inch iPhone does come with an Aluminum casing, it further results in two scenarios: The first scenario being Apple sticks to aluminium design and LCD display for the traditional iPhones of size 4.7 inch and 5.5 inch. And it releases a single model of high end device with a glass casing and edge to edge OLED display. Along with these features, the high end device will also support wireless charging.
The second scenario will be Apple marks an end to aluminium design with its next generation iPhone line up. These models will come with a glass case, and support over the air wireless charging. The high end device will have an OLED display, with a better battery life in comparison with other iPhone models.
Apple is expected to begin the production in the next quarter.
